New Castle Hotels & Resorts, a Shelton, Conn. based third-party manager and hotel development company, co-developed the 133-suite extended stay property and will manage it.

“Moncton is one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and is also the fastest growing urban region east of Toronto and we expect this property to be a welcome addition to the business and tourism infrastructure of this city,” says Michael Beckley, senior vice-president, lodging development, Marriott Hotels of Canada.  “This opening symbolizes the growth and development aimed to achieve Marriott’s long-term strategy of “horizontal geographic distribution across Canada – a presence from coast to coast.”

Nestled in Moncton, the second largest city in Canada’s Maritime Provinces, the Residence Inn offers an onsite restaurant, The Keg, serving lunch and dinner.  Guests enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast buffet, indoor pool, fitness room and parking garage.  The hotel offers 800 square feet of meeting space, including a 400-square-foot room with seating for up to 28, and an executive boardroom that seats ten in plush leather executive chairs.

Each studio, one-bedroom or two-bedroom suite features Marriott’s luxury bedding with plush mattresses and crisp linens, is fully equipped with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, coffee maker and dining table, and offers free high-speed internet access, both wired and wireless.  The Residence Inn, Moncton is just five miles from the Greater Moncton Airport, and convenient to area attractions such as Magnetic Hill, the Magnetic Hill Zoo, Tidal Bore Park, Crystal Palace Amusement Park and Magic Mountain Waterpark.  Rick Norman, a 14-year hospitality industry veteran is general manager and Michelle Boudreau serves as director of sales.

“We are excited to be part of Moncton’s vibrant community and to be the first company to bring Marriott’s outstanding products to the region,” says Gerald P. Chase, president and chief operating officer of New Castle Hotels & Resorts.  “We are confident travelers to the area will welcome the Residence Inn brand’s singular combination of amenities, quality and convenience.”

Moncton is a very dynamic and entrepreneurial city in Atlantic Canada. Right from the start I was very impressed with the reception we received from the city and the business community,” says Jim Spatz, chairman and chief executive officer of Southwest Properties, which co-developed the Residence Inn. “We are thrilled to be opening New Brunswick’s first Marriott hotel in downtown Moncton, and I would like to thank the partners and all involved in making the Residence Inn Moncton a success.”

Often called the “Hub City” for its central location in south-eastern New Brunswick, Moncton perches on the north bank of the Petitcodiac River in the Bay of Fundy region.  The city is recognized as the largest population centre in the province.
